Visit of the President of the Helmholtz Association and delegation
Prof. Dr. Jürgen MLYNEK, President of the Helmholtz Association, and two colleagues, Prof. Dr. Horst STÖCKER (Chairman of the Board/Scientific Director, Society for Heavy Ion Research, Darmstadt) and Prof. Dr. Rudi BALLING (Chairman of the Board/Scientific Director, Helmholtz Centre for Infectious Diseases, Braunschweig), visited the JET Facilities on Friday 18th January 2008. After a presentation on JET and the role of EFDA in fusion research by the EFDA Associate Leader for JET, Dr. Francesco Romanelli, the delegation had the opportunity to tour parts of the JET Facilities including the control room, the remote handling control room and training facilities as well as the Assembly Hall. Prof. Dr. Mlynek and colleagues said they were impressed by the many JET achievements including the record in fusion power production, the engineering flexibility that was built into the JET device allowing its continuous upgrade in order to investigate new physics and technology aspects of relevance for next step fusion devices such as ITER.
