At Culham we operate a policy of open information and try to publicise our fusion
research widely. To that end we run special tours of our working faciliites and our general policy
for such visits is given below.
School, College and University Outreach
UKAEA Fusion at Culham in Oxfordshire, who operate JET as well as the UK's own fusion experiment
"MAST", run a vigorous education outreach programme. Opportunities are available for
groups of people in full time education to visit the MAST and JET fusion experiments during working
week days. A typical visit lasts around 2-3 hours (i.e. a whole morning or afternoon) and the
maximum number of visitors is normally thirty. As there is a waiting list of six months or so
for such visits, early booking is strongly advised. Presentations and tours are tailored to the
age group concerned and for A-level physics visitors we can provide workbooks for pre- and post-visit
work relating to fusion and the curriculum. Also available is the possibility for a scientist
to visit primary or secondary schools to talk about, and demonstrate, the basics of fusion science.
For more details of any of these opportunities please contact Chris Warrick,
Education Outreach Manager (01235 466647) or write to us (details
below).
