JET Insight March 2010

The JET experiment is undergoing an extensive refurbishment to answer further questions raised in the fusion community. Read about the so-called ‘shutdown’ in this issue. To be continuously informed click on our webpage www.jet.efda.org to follow the “Shutdown Weekly” informing you week by week about the progress of this fifth shutdown since commissioning JET in 1983.
The main article in this March issue describes what it means to work in an international environment using the implementation of a newly designed reflectometer. On page 4 Paola Batistoni and Paul Coad present themselves as new Fusion Technology Task Force Leader and Deputy Task Force Leader respectively. Last but not least you meet Cristian Lungu who has recently been awarded the Romanian Academy “Dragomir Hurmuzescu” prize.

JET Insight December 2009

In this issue you will find a letter from Francesco Romanelli, EFDA Associate Leader for JET. The main article gives an overview of the past two years and the achievements in supporting ITER, JET’s successor on the road to fusion energy. Page 4 introduces the newly appointed Task Force Leaders and Deputy Leaders.

JET Insight September 2009

There are many pitfalls in setting up and managing research infrastructures across the European Union. RAMIRI (Realising and Managing International Research Infrastructures) is a platform for the exchange of information on how to run an experiment. The RAMIRI delegation visited the JET Facility as a model for a successful European experiment. The main article in this issue deals with the various tasks of the Task Force Fusion Technology established nine years ago at JET. You will be surprised by how many different working areas this single team covers. You would think Physics is a precise science:surprisingly enough, secondee André Neto, winner of the award for the best student paper at a prestigious conference, explains in an interview with JET Insight that his work has much in common with a promise.

JET Insight June 2009

Industry plays a key role for the ITER-Like Wall Project at JET and for fusion research in general. Read in this issue more about JET’s all-metal wall. Over 30 Million Euros are being spent, 19 industrial companies are participating and 9 European fusion Associations are contributing to realise the planned upgrade of JET. On page 4 you will find a recollection of a remarkable visit. Ronald Plasterk, the Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science, visited the JET Facilities in April. The former molecular biologist left his individual mark on those accompanying him. JET Insight reveals some of their impressions.

JET Insight March 2009

The March issue of JET Insight contains an article by Martin Laxaback describing the process of how the next Experimental Campaign has been planned. The main article deals with the fascinating technique of Remote Handling. With the start of the next shutdown thirty nine people of the Remote Handling group will be giving a final demonstration of their wide range of expertise which is unique within the fusion community. And last but not least you will discover the faces behind the names of those colleagues who recently joined the Close Support Unit.

JET Insight December 2008

The current December issue contains recollections of this year from three different perspectives.
In his letter the EFDA Associate Leader, Francesco Romanelli looks rather forward to the next tasks that will have to be accomplished than back to the achievements of this year. Fortunately there is are convincing reasons to look confidentially into the future: JET received good marks from two independent panels. The main article summarizes the scientific work done in this year and the authors in page 4, who are in charge of public relations work, allow a small insight into their daily work.

JET Insight October 2008

The first article concerns the visit of the French ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Mr Maurice Gourdault-Montagne, which underlines the strong engagement France has in the field of fusion research. You’ll find an article about the “Big step forward in heating systems”, the successful commissioning of the ITER-like Antenna. Last, but not least, read the personal insights of two French colleagues in leading positions, about their work at JET.

JET Insight July 2008

The first edition of the newly designed successor to the “EFDA-JET Bulletin” is focusing on the 25th anniversary of JET’s first plasma, with a letter from the EFDA Associate Leader for JET, and the personal views of young scientists about working at JET.

EFDA-JET Bulletin October 2006

Hannes Alfén Prize, ITER-Like Wall, recent news and events at JET

EFDA-JET Bulletin July 2006

New EFDA Associate Leader for JET, first C15 results and an interview with JD Lawson
